This technique can be used to characterise -
- chemical speciation of dopant or impurity elements for most elements with atomic number (Z) greater than or equal to Titanium
- short range (nearest neighbour) environment for elements with Z greater than or equal to Ti
where the concentration of the target element is greter than approximately 10ppm
